Jeremiah’s Letter to D11 Families

My name is Jeremiah Johnson, I’m a 15-year Executive Professional in D11, currently serving as the Director of Digital Solutions. My wife is a D11 high school teacher and we have two kids in the district. I am fully invested in the success of D11, the wellbeing of its teachers and staff, and the quality of its education.

Today, I’m running for the District 11 School Board of Education. I believe our children, families, and taxpayers deserve a learning institution that is safe, academically rigorous, versatile, and honoring of the trust that their parents place in this institution.

I’m not a politician. I’m a parent who sees firsthand the challenges and opportunities in our schools every day. I’ve worked in classrooms, alternative programs, and correctional settings. As a parent, I know what it means to want the best for our children. As a district leader, I know how to help D11 deliver on its promise to be the “premier district of choice” in the Pikes Peak region.

Outside of D11, I’m a proud member of the Colorado Air National Guard.  As a member of the Engine Shop I have honed the skills and focus it takes to build and maintain jet engines. I know what it means to lead a team in crisis situations and to take your team’s life into your hands.  My military service has trained me to move with a singular purpose.  It has strengthened my drive to lead with Integrity and place the needs of others above my own.  These are the values I will bring to the D11 School Board.

Priority Issues

Student Safety

Every child deserves to feel safe physically, emotionally, and socially when they walk through the school doors. I will:

    • Advocate for enhanced security measures and emergency preparedness in every school.
    • Support programs that address mental health, bullying prevention, and school climate.
    • Ensure our sports are both safe and fair for every student.

    Academic Excellence

We must raise the bar while ensuring every student has the tools to reach it. I will:

      • Champion high academic standards and evidence-based teaching practices.
      • Support expanded access to tutoring, advanced placement, career-tech, and enrichment programs.
      • Advocate for early literacy, strong math instruction, and learning recovery strategies.

      Parental Involvement

My campaign is rooted in the belief that parents deserve a seat at the table, and when we are present, informed, and empowered, our children thrive.  Next to access to high quality instruction, parental involvement is the biggest factor in a student’s academic outcome. Parents are essential partners in education, not spectators. I will:

      • Champion transparent communication between schools and families.
      • Encourage parent representation on school committees and in policy discussions.
      • Push for more flexible, creative ways for parents to engage, through volunteerism, parent-teacher groups, and feedback channels that are heard.

      School Choice

My wife and I have personal experience with the benefits of D11 becoming more and more a portfolio district. Initially at a school out of district – we enrolled our students in a D11 school that was a better fit, offered a better code of conduct, and is a leading academic institution. In a world where most districts are losing enrollment year over year – D11 must lean into its identity as offering a wide variety of opportunities to meet the wide breadth of student needs. I will:

      • Advocate for continued access to high quality instruction that fits the individual needs of students.
      • Keep dollars close to the classroom and students.
      • Ensure that any new public charter schools are contributing to our goal to make D11 the premier district of choice in the Pikes Peak Region.

      Join the team

Join me in advocating for safe schools, strong academics, and true parental partnership. Together, we can make District 11 a model of excellence and trust.
